The Thurman School of Music has been providing the Dallas area with quality music education for nearly forty years. The past fifteen years have seen enormous growth as our enrollment has grown to over 170 piano students. We accept students of all ages from pre-school to adult.
Our current staff includes ten teachers, most of whom teach almost exclusively in-home lessons, traveling throughout the Park Cities, Richardson, Plano and the surrounding areas. At TSM, we use an eclectic approach to teaching piano. Through the utilization of various standard methods, we emphasize to our students the importance of the ability to read music. Our curriculum includes a well-rounded mix of various styles, such as classical, pop, jazz, sacred, etc., as well as technique, theory, and sight-reading. TSM teachers seek to tailor their approach to fit each individual student’s needs and desires while establishing a solid musical foundation.
In addition to outstanding piano instruction, TSM also gives parents the option of in-home lessons. This saves time and effort for parents while providing students with the nurturing environment of their home in which to learn rather than an intimidating studio.
It is the belief of our school that all children can and should learn the language of music. We understand that each child learns differently and has varying musical ambitions, but we strive to maintain a standard of excellence for our students while instilling in them a love for music that will last a lifetime.
